( I made this page to help breeders help to know what to look for in a good Show Quality Holland Lop, what what things you need to watch out for when picking a Holland Lop, just because a Holland Lop is Pedigreed and the breeder says its Show Quality, Does NOT mean it will show well on the show table, Show Quality just means the rabbit has no DQ's and is the correct color and weight, but could show badly if it has too many faults.)
(Head)
(The head must be horse shoe shape with a wide wit from the forehead between the eyes and down to the cheeks, cheeks should be same wit as the forehead, if the cheeks are narrower then the forehead then you rabbit is lacking cheeks.)
(Muzzle Length)
(A holland lop should have a flat almost pug dog like nose, not pointy and long like you see in the right picture, should have a nice foreword forehead that is the same length as the rabbits cheeks like you see in the left picture, if the rabbits forehead is farther back then the cheeks then its lacking in the head and its mussel is too long.)
(Crown)
(The Holland Lops Crown Should be coming up onto the top part of the rabbits head, if the rabbits crown is on the back of the head and closer to the shoulders, then you have a slipped crown, there should be no space between the rabbits eyes and ears, which also means slipped crown, the ear should go strait down the side of the rabbits head right next to the rabbits eye, if the ear goes over the rabbits eye a little but goes strait down thats a even better nice high crown, if the rabbits ear goes over the eye but is kind of side ways then that too is also a slipped crown, which you see in the 3rd smaller picture.)
(Air Plane Ears)
(When a Holland Lops ears stick strait out or strait up this is called air plane ears, caused by the holland lops crown not be wide enough and being too narrow and thin, the holland lops ears should lay flat agents his head.)
(Ear Length)
(The Ears should be no longer then the chin, if to the chest then the ears are too long, which can cause a slip crown from the extra weight on the rabbits ears causing the crown not to grow in the correct spot, and some times can cause the earss to fold, the ears must be in a tea spoon shape nice and crown and thick, they must feel like leather, if they feel like paper then there too thin.)
(Ear Shape)
(The Holland lop should have nice tea spoon shape short thick ears that feel like leather, poor shape ears are normally longer then the chin and are more shaped like a butter knife which is incorrect.)
(Chest/Hind Quarters)
(A holland Lops chest must be wide and almost touching the table, you should not see anything between the front legs the table or back feet, you also don't want to see any leg length, your rabbits should look like they have two little tree stumps, like the pictures show you bellow.)
(The Holland lop should look like hes standing up on on his or hers tip toes, if there feet is flat agents the table and sticking out, it means the rabbits got long bone, not just on the legs but its hole body, also when a rabbits got a narrow chest it also means there lacking in the hind quarters as well.)
(Hind Quarters)
( A holland lops hind quarters must be full and wide and goes all the way down to the table and you shouldn't see there hips sticking out, if the Rabbits got a round shape to the rear and you can slide your hand under there rear across the table then your rabbits lacking in the hind quarters, a pinched hind quarters can cause a Doe to have trouble giving birth or not at all or some times even death do to stuck babies, always make sure your Doe has no pinched rears, same goes for your buck because he can pass it onto his offspring, the way you can tell if your doe is pinched is by cupping your rabbits shoulders sliding your hand down the rabbits back all the way down to its rear, your hand should open wider then the shoulders, if your fingers start to touch as you get to the rabbits rear then there rear is pinched, another way you can tell is by flipping your rabbit over on top there back and take a look at there back feet, the toes should be going strait up and down were the toes are pointing torts the rabbits head, if the rabbits feet are in a V Shape where the hocks aka (Heel) are touching another sign of pinched hind quarters.)
(Feet)
(How you can tell if your Holland lop has Nice short bone or Long thin bone is by also looking at there feet, There feet should be short and wide and strait and spread apart as much as the rear, HL's with long thin bone will have long yet skinny back feet, if there this way when there a baby is can also mean the Rabbit is going to grow up to be very big yet thin boned, rabbits with short fat feet normally means there going to stay around 3 to 3 1/2 pounds, so always check your rabbits feet before buying or deciding to keep them)
(Shoulders)
(The Rabbits shoulders should be nice a short and full and go strait from the back of the head down the back, in the right picture you see a holland lop with a shoulder dip and a little length to them, which causes the Rabbit to have a low head set when stacked.)
